Most of my prose pieces come to me when I instinctively start writing on a topic, get lost in a personal journal entry, or experience an event that begs me to turn it into a metaphor, as is the case for “Pedal Forward.” “Edge of My Ocean” was the first prose piece I wrote. At the time I didn’t even know it was a prose. I know I had read prose pieces before and knew what a prose piece entailed. However when I was writing “Ocean” I remember having finished a little bit of it during lunch and telling a friend of mine I didn’t know how to describe the writing style of it. “Ha, it sounds like a prose.” *facepalm* I knew that I knew that! Not gonna lie, that one hurt my pride: an English Lit. major who didn’t know what a prose was.
